United Memorial Church

United Church Women (UCW)

January, 2009

Mission:

Our mission is to love God, to foster Christian faithfulness, spirituality, commitment and devotion, and to promote love and respect by living generously and giving joyfully to all God’s people and to affirm and strengthen ourselves creatively.

Purpose:

To unite women of the congregation for the total mission of the Church and to provide a medium through which we may express our loyalty and devotion to Jesus Christ in Christian witness, study, fellowship, and service.

United Memorial UCW operates philosophically under the umbrella of the UCC Women’s Network Ministries, and strives to direct activities that are in keeping with our Mission and Purpose statements. Presently we have thirty-seven active members in four Units, the backbone of our UCW, which meet regularly throughout the year. The individual Units decide upon their own activities according to the interests of the members. These activities may include spiritual studies, book reviews, fundraising, gifts for shut-ins, social events, banner making, etc.. A leadership group also meets monthly, or as required, for communication purposes; to discuss and plan special UCW and Church-wide fundraisers, receptions, and special events such as a Worship Service (at least one per year); to coordinate our annual Spring Fling; and to discuss financial matters. We act as hostesses, church community builders, out-reachers and compassionate sisters to each other and to members of the UM community. Most importantly, we enjoy what we do and look to the future with optimism.

Food and Faith.

On Labour Day weekend, we combined worship with a potluck breakfast.
After a discussion, stories of hospitallity were shared by members of
the congregation, followed by a brief reflection on scripture about sharing.
